FREE ART ACTIVITIES FOR LOCAL YOUTH
As The Allegany Arts Association closes, we are happy to announce that members of the community are stepping in to continue the AAA mission to provide free accessible arts services and activities to the local residents of Allegany County.
"FREE ART FOR YOUTH"
ALLEGANY COUNTY SUMMER PROGRAMS CONTINUE IN 2023
The benefits of access to the arts for youth are many and include problem-solving abilities, creativity, literacy, fine & gross motor skills, connection & understanding, and individual wellness. Now hosted by the Angelica Free Library under the guidance of Susan Doran, former Allegany Arts Association Youth Activities Director, the popular Free Art for Youth program in Allegany County will continue to provide these free benefits to local youth.
For forty years the Allegany Arts Association provided free “Arts” classes for students in the county during academic breaks. As AAA closes, we are fortunate that the Angelica Free Library agreed to support the program so it may continue. Free Art for Youth is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Arts Council for Wyoming County.
The Opening Day kick off event will be held on July 1st, 2023 at the Lavender Festival at the Park Circle in Angelica from 9am – 4 pm. Youth and parents will be able to check out all of the artistic opportunities available, make art, get information on where to sign up for future classes throughout Allegany County, and learn more about the Arts Access Pass Program. Drawing, painting, printing, book arts, music and dance are among the offerings at venues including local Libraries, parks, dance studios and at the Fountain Arts Center.
A Calendar of Events will be posted on the Angelica Free Library, Allegany Arts Association, and Belfast Organization for Artists websites and the AAA e-news, as well as posters around town and on facebook. If you are an artist interested in teaching our local youth or need more information about hosting a class please email the Free Art for Youth Activities Coordinator, Susan Doran at thebelviderecornerstone@gmail.com.
Watch for future free arts programming for local youth and adults to be provided through the on-going unified efforts of local participating host sites, libraries, the Belvidere Cornerstone, the Belfast Organization for Artists, the Arts Council for Wyoming County, the Tri-County Arts Council, the Allegany County Office for the Aging, the Allegany County Senior Foundation, the ASI; Arts Access Pass Program, and funds from local community sponsors.

The Allegany Arts Association is a non-profit (501c3) organization founded in 1982 to promote local participation in the arts. Supported by our members, donors, grants, volunteers, and advertising sponsors; one of our main goals is to offer FREE art programs to local youth. Your participation, either by hosting a site or teaching a class, lets students experience fine art right here where they live.
The majority of our FREE youth activities occur during local academic breaks when children and parents may benefit most from exploring these creative opportunities. With consideration for the needs of local residents, the availability of instructors, and a public location; we work with host sites and schedules to fit the needs of each community. To keep cost at a minimum, free space or donated space is best and must be open to the public. Private property is not permitted for program use.
Instructors are paid an hourly rate for instructional time and reimbursed for cost of materials. Prep time and clean up are documented as In-Kind hours. A Class Outline, age range for students and target number of students should be provided. Classes could include drawing, painting, printing, book art, collage, music, creative writing & poetry, movement and so much more.
Please contact any board member if you would like to find out more about these programs.
